While we all love easy-breezy, laid back attire, no one can resist the allure of a more sophisticated silhouette. The pencil skirt is a closet staple for most women. Not only is it structured and formal, but it’s also extremely stylish and empowering. It accentuates your curves and can be taken from the workplace to a cocktail party. The amazing thing about pencil skirts is that they can make any outfit look more polished, regardless of what you pair them with.
I’ve been wanting to explore this super-versatile garment for a while now, so I pulled out one of my wardrobe favourites – a sky blue high-waisted pencil skirt with a metallic sheen – and styled it three ways. Here are the results:
When we’re talking about styling high-waist bottoms, crop tops are a no-brainer. I paired this black lace crop top with the skirt, along with a black cropped blazer. As I was aiming to achieve a semi-formal look, I accessorized with yellow geometric tassel earrings and a gold statement bracelet, which also added the warmth of colour to the otherwise cool shades of the attire. You can take this ensemble to a fancy dinner date, an elegant evening soiree, or any semi-formal do.
For the second look, I switched the outerwear from the formal blazer to a gold and white bomber jacket. I’m a sucker for bomber jackets and, being someone who’s always on the lookout to mix things up, adding this seemed like the perfect idea to bring out the true versatility of this skirt. The jacket instantly injected a sporty-chic vibe to the semi-formal ensemble. Plus, the metallic sheen of the jacket and the skirt complemented each other like a charm! Wear this to an evening gig or on a night out.
Who would have thought informal tees would pair well with serious pencil skirts? This combination lets you push your boundaries and switch on the fashion-forward side of your personality. It’s effortless yet sophisticated; the union of fun with subtlety.
I paired my dark blue quirky quote tee with the skirt for the last look. As you can see, the tee was printed, which worked well with the solid colour bottom. I also took the jewellery up a notch with stacked colourful bracelets, star statement earrings, and a cute eyeballs statement ring. You could wear this to a movie, a brunch plan, or even to college.
I paired all three looks with a gold studded, cross-body black handbag and black suede block heels. These heels are my latest obsession; I wear them with almost everything these days, mainly for two reasons – they’re stunning AND they’re comfortable. I wish all my heels were this easy to walk around in! You can, of course, opt for stilettos or perhaps even sneakers (for the more informal look).
The makeup was simple and day-friendly all throughout, with pink lips and pink nails.
Something I’ve been dying to try is wearing a pencil skirt, which has a slit, with thigh high boots. Throwing on a snug sweater or tee would be ideal!
