The other day I read this post about how the fashion bloggers’ community in India has grown to  mammoth proportions. However, the unfortunate fact of the matter is that everything has become a numbers’ game. The new “fashion bloggers” post a million pictures with two lines of content and that’s it. Where are the opinions? Where is the creativity? Many of these posts are sponsored or consist of products sent over by brands, so there isn’t even a modicum of personal style that reveals itself. In the midst of all the competition, the true essence of fashion blogging is slowly being disregarded. This really hit home!

As far back as I can remember, I have always loved writing. I may have started off as a content writer in the fashion industry, but I always blogged (or simply wrote for myself) on the side. These blogs weren’t always fashion-centric, they were more personal – almost like writing in my own diary. I’m not sure why I stopped, but I miss writing like that: putting my raw opinions out there! After content writing, I ventured into editorial. That’s when I learned more about changing tones and connecting with the audience – of course, I instantly realized how much I enjoyed writing in the realm of fashion and beauty. I was so excited to explore this world and put forth my unadulterated ideas, but then, hardly anything ever goes according to plan…

When I started Addicted to Lace, I had no intentions of ever walking down the OOTD path. There are many who think that that’s all there is to being a fashion blogger – posting pretty pictures of your outfits all over Instagram. While there is some truth to that, there is so much more to blogging! I’m not going to deny how much I enjoy putting together looks and sharing my personal style with you all. Not one to push the style envelope, I’m glad I traipsed into the street style domain, which has helped me get out of my comfort zone and try new things. But over time, I forgot why I started this blog in the first place. Inspired by the likes of Leandra Medine and Bandana Tewari, I wanted to find my voice and write about anything and everything that makes “Fashion” what it is. Somewhere down the line, I completely lost track of this. But not anymore…

I’m ready to jump back in with renewed vigour and fresh determination to make content the king once again. I’m sorry I went on a full-fledged rant, but this had been eating me up from the inside for a while now – just had to be done! There was a time when I used to spend hours on one blog post because it simply could NOT be published till it felt perfect. Although, I may have not had as many followers back then, at least I shared posts that satiated the writer within me. No, I’m not going to stop blogging about my personal style, but from now on, I promise to share more engaging and inspiring content.
Because, at the end of the day, fashion blogging is never just about pretty pictures.

Stay tuned for my next post, highlighting the best of the best from Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive ’15.
